OpenWRT is a linux distribution for embedded devices. It allows one to customize a network device (i.e. a router) through the use of a variety of software packages that can be installed on the system. OpenWRT was developed from firmware that Linksys used on their WRT54G wireless routers. Freifunk Firmware is a modified version of OpenWRT.
